Gang member. Addict.
Rebuilt from a shattered eye socket.
Now, I speak on decision-making when you feel torn.
The same clarity turns good leaders into better ones, and better leaders into better results.
I am not my thoughts. I am the one watching them.
Cesar’s childhood was tough and divided—shaped by cultural & political extremes. He learned early that inner stability & emotional clarity were essential. This foundation is what ultimately led him into the work he does today:
“By 15 I was arrested and put on probation. Around then I found my way out of the gang, isolated, and taught myself guitar by 17. I built a career and bought a house at 20.
At 24 I drove to Los Angeles knowing no one and slept in my car until I found a place. I discovered boxing and built a career on my own, while still drinking and using drugs.
At 28 I was assaulted by a group of people. My eye socket was shattered, I lost my front teeth, my tongue was cut off, and my bladder was punctured. I had to relearn how to walk and talk. That year I became a Buddhist. I learned I am not my thoughts, I am the one watching them.”
Today, I teach leaders and teams how to make the call when they feel torn, using the same watcher's mind that carried me through the worst decision points of my life."
He delivers keynotes and interactive workshops that blend personal storytelling, decision-making frameworks, and mindfulness-based practices. Cesar is certified in Mindfulness through Rice University, and his approach is informed by years of study with Sri Lankan and Tibetan Buddhist monks, as well as mentorship from renowned storyteller Rebecca Armstrong, a close friend of mythologist Joseph Campbell.
Everything Cesar teaches comes from lived experience, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to helping leaders find clarity when it matters most.
